Celebrating Milestones with Magic: A Georgetown Weekend

Updated: Apr 12, 2024

In this blog post, you get a weekend in January in Georgetown, Texas.

There’s something extraordinary about celebrating milestones with loved ones, especially when you combine it with new experiences and unexpected adventures.  This January, I had the privilege of planning a weekend getaway to Georgetown, Texas, to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday with a twist: it was also my best friend’s first time visiting the Lone Star State!

With a meticulously planned itinerary and a heart full of excitement, we embarked on our three-day journey, eager to create memories that would last a lifetime.

Friday: Oysters, Whiskey, and Inner Space

Our adventure started with a delightful dinner at The Georgetown Postal Office Restaurant. The historic ambiance, grilled oysters' aroma, and the glasses' clinking instantly transported us to a timeless Texas haven. The plump, juicy oysters and mom’s expertly chosen whiskey were the perfect way to taste the occasion. As laughter filled the air, we reminisced about past birthdays and shared plans for the future, the restaurant’s warmth mirroring the warmth in our hearts.

Saturday: Cavernous Wonders and Pizza Delights

Saturday dawned bright and sunny, promising a day filled with exploration and delicious treats.  After a breakfast prepared with love by Mom, we ventured into the depths of the Inner Space Cavern.  The awe-inspiring rock formations, sculpted by millions of years of water and time, left us speechless.  We marveled at the glistening crystals, imagined prehistoric creatures roaming the caver, and captured countless photos to immortalize the moment.

Emerging from the cool underground, we refueled with mouthwatering pizzas at the Pizza Stop, a local favorite known for its creative toppings and crispy crust.  Laughter erupted as we devoured each slice, fueled by the day’s adventures and the undeniable charm of Georgetown’s small-town atmosphere.

A stroll down historic Main Street followed, where we window-shopped at charming boutiques, admired the architectural gems, and soaked in the laid-back Texas vibe the afternoon concluded with a delectable dinner at Wildfire Steakhouse, where perfectly grilled steaks and lively conversations made for an unforgettable evening.

Sunday: Sweet Goodbyes, Capitol Dreams, and Batty Encounters

A bittersweet Sunday began with a delicious breakfast at The Lemon Restaurant, where fluffy pancakes and steaming coffee provided the perfect fuel for our final goodbyes to the leg of our journey- Austin!

The Texas State Capitol, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, was a sight to behold. We wandered through the majestic halls, learning about the state’s history and marveling at the intricate architecture.

This weekend wasn’t just a trip; it was a memory.

Beyond the Itinerary:

This Georgetown getaway wasn’t just about ticking off tourist destinations; it created cherished memories with the people who matter most.  From sharing laughter over oysters to exploring hidden caves and witnessing breathtaking natural wonders, every moment was infused with love, friendship, and the joy of discovery.

As we boarded the plane back home, our hearts were filled with gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate Mom’s milestone and introduce my best friend since high school, the magic of Texas.
